M8 is an emission nebula and as an H II region. The Lagoon Nebula is distanced between 4,000–6,000 light-years away from Earth. In the night sky, it spans 90' by 40', which translates to an actual dimension of 110 by 50 light years. The pink nebulae is only visible through time exposure, color photos, however will appear gray to the human eye via telescope. This image was captured over 16 hours total exposure time.
